* Latvia
  • Folklore server "folklore.lv", contains descriptions, photos and sound recordings of almost all Latvian folk groups, and everything about folkloric life of Latvia.
  • The Culture Management Centre "Lauska" was founded in 2003 with the aim to support cultural processes and professional culture management in Latvia. Lauska helps to professionally organise and implement different projects and creative ideas, including production of CDs and printed material, concerts and musical events, folk music workshops and camps.
  • Auli, is a bagpipe and drum music group founded in 2003. Auli's repertoire contains mainly Latvian traditional tunes, but also contemporary pieces with strong rhythm and varied bagpipe sound, as well as tunes of other European peoples.
  • Imants Daksis, is a philosopher, poet, acoustic-folk-rock musician and traveller. He calls himself an imbodiment of energy. When the energy breaks up, a song emerges. Imants is only 23 years old, but he wrote around 200 songs and 8 albums! new!
  • Ilgi, from the beginning, Ilgi was mainly interested in the most ancient and sacred levels of folk music. In time, however, they gradually transformed from a traditional folk ensemble into a band that used folklore as a jumping off point for creating a contemporary music distinctly their own.
  • Laiksne, their repertoire consists of Latvian seasonal ritual and lyric songs as well as traditional folk dance music. The group's vocal style is firmly rooted in Latvian tradition but Laiksne also allows present day influences to creep in, by using several Latvian traditional instruments as well as some modern instruments.
  • Laimas Muzykanti, initially the band was formed as folklore ensemble but with the time were involved the most distinguished rock musicians of Latgale. As a result the band created their specific music style named "ethnorock". They play and sing Latgalian folksongs which were collected during folklore expeditions in Latgale.
  • Maskackas spelmani, from Riga. In their repertoire, there are original songs from different parts of Latvia, accompanied by various instruments (squeeze-box, violin, zither, flute, bagpipe, bas, psaltery, drums and others), and, of course, dances.
  • Skyforger, is a Pagan/Folk Metal band. They present proud, nationalistic music without any political leanings, and their passion for the land of their fathers can be heard like the surging of the tide, underpinning the warships of their songs.

* Lithuania
  • Eastern Folk: Lithuania, info about Lithuanian folk music inside the website of the Polish magazine "Gadki z Chatki".
  • Vilniaus Etninčs Veiklos Centras / Vilnius Ethnical Activity Centre (VEVC), is an independent institution of ethnical culture and education. Activities of the Centre are organised according to these programs: expression of ethnical culture during festivals in Vilnius, old and new forms of symbols, continuity of historical traditions of Vilnius (fairs of folk art, marking historical and mythological places, international folklore festivals), ethno cultural education, development of educational basis by collecting and producing publications and other works.
  • Kaunas Music Ensemble "Ainiai", this ensemble is original and interesting because of the variety and the number of instruments employed (more than 20 different Lithuanian instruments are used in the concerts). These instruments are used to perform not only Lithuanian folk songs and dances, but also original work pieces created by various composers.
  • Atalyja, is the most popular Lithuanian folkrock group. The folk, rock, jazz, funky and world music sound as one in Atalya.
  • Donis, is a well-known Lithuanian neofolk/ambient/experimental music project, the central axis of which is a multi-instrumentalist Donatas Bielkauskas. For creating and playing music, he uses authentic and modernised Lithuanian folk instruments as well as electronic instruments, and invites sessional musicians for cooperation. The project is distinguished for its solid, subtle and mature sound of modern music with Baltic touch.
  • Kulgrinda, performs ritual Baltic folklore and unique magic "sutartines". These melodies come from the oldest times of the Lithuanian nation. The songs accompany the prayers to the old gods, dances, and provide thunderous accompaniment of drums, bagpipes, violins and other instruments. The band holds quite a modern approach to folklore, that is, by preserving old traditions they adapt them to the today's life.
  • Rasa Serra, singer from Lithuania. Folk, Neo folk, Modern folk. (in Lithuanian)
  • Sutaras, is an independent, professional folklore group. You will find the whole range of Lithuanian instrumental folk music in its repertoire: from old rituals, to authentic shepherds' instruments dating to the end of the 19th Century, to the international and classical instruments that became increasingly more common in the villages of Lithuania by the beginning if the 20th Century.
  • Ugnele, children's folk song and dance ensemble, famous for its choreography and choir groups and for its small but interesting and original Lithuanian folk instrument orchestra.
  • Zalvarinis, their interpretation of ancient Lithuanian folk songs sounds new and unusual. Zalvarinis unites different styles of music: from light rock till metal with blues, jazz elements. The main intention of the band is to bring a new life to vanishing ancient Lithuanian folk songs and to present them to listeners as interesting, modern and attractive. (in Lithuanian)
